Moments of Joy!

Experiencing joy and positive emotions is one of the pillars of Lifestyle Medicine.  Seeking (and finding) joy helps us to live more rewarding lives, and improves other aspects of our health as well.  Plus – it’s contagious!  When you are happy, the people you are connected to will be happier as well.  There is actually good research to back this up.

We also know that the brain pathways that we use most are the pathways that we gravitate toward.  So if you make “seeking joy” part of your routine, you will become more joyful over time.

For this reason, we have launched this web page.  Our goal is to share a new moment of joy every day.  Please check back frequently to get your “daily dose of joy”.  And if you have a moment that you would like to share with others, please send it to us at joy@roclifemed.com.  Just a few guidelines:  Pictures or videos are fine.  Please keep it to less than 5 minutes.  Please use a trustworthy source (like youtube).  And thank you for spreading the joy!

Wouldn’t It Be Nice

“And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and grew gardens full of fresh food, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.

“And the people healed.  And, in the absence of people living in ignorant,
dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.

“And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they have been healed.”

The ability of a walk to change mentality is truly amazing and joy-inducing!

The included pictures are from an evening walk I took last night. The pretty colors are just the surface of what contributed to the feeling of joy.

What can’t so readily be captured was the burst of fresh air in my face, the gradual release of tension from my muscles, and the progressive lifting of my mood.

The ability of a walk to change mentality is truly amazing and joy-inducing!
